Absence

I want to taste you;
pungently sweet and filled
with the flavors of freedom
and mindless joy

I want to remember you;
the innocence and squeaky
clean laughter of a child
running barefoot through
warm grass in the summertime

I want to love you;
that ‘for-the-moment’
living
unobstrusive to anyone else
but you

I want to be you;
safe in who you are
regardless of thoughts
and sounds of the heart
that will ring whatever bell they will ring

I want to see you;
shadowing my every
move that makes me
uncomfortable, stifled;
grabbing me by the shoulders
to say, ‘it’s ok’.
